After several months of construction, the La Mena photovoltaic park was commissioned at the beginning of this year.
Enerland Group completed construction of the La Mena photovoltaic plant for its client Greenyellow and it was commissioned last month. The plant, located in the municipality of San Carlos de Guoroa in Colombia, has a capacity of 13.7 MWp and will generate 22,000 MWh of 100% renewable energy. This energy will be equivalent to the consumption of more than 14,000 Colombian households and will prevent the emission of 18,433 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The construction of this plant required 18.57 hectares of land, on which 21,120 photovoltaic modules were installed. This park joins Enerland's international portfolio in Colombia, making it the 6th solar park built, connected to the national electricity grid and with a declaration of commercial operation in compliance with the connection requirements established by the CNO.
"The Solar La Mena project was a major challenge for Enerland due to the extreme environmental and social conditions. However, considerable efforts were made to ensure that the workforce during construction was 100% local. In addition, 13% of that workforce were women, thereby contributing to the area's employment rate, service provision with local community businesses and participation in smaller services such as food and hydration in the area directly affected by the project," Rafael Rodríguez, Construction Director at Enerland Colombia.
Corporate Social Responsibility in La Mena
We prioritise and work to quality standards that respect the fauna and flora living in the places where the company operates, and we also work towards the development of the local community. For this reason, a series of specific measures were taken into account for the construction of La Mena. Here are a few examples:
- Comprehensive management of solid and liquid waste
- Donation of recyclable material
- Water management and efficient use
- Handling of chemical substances and implementation of bunds for spill protection
- Holding talks and training sessions to ensure a healthy, structured working environment
- Wetting of the external road
- Creation of local employment through the contracting of sales and service suppliers from local companies
