Through our office in Portugal, we announce that the new photovoltaic projects in Portugal are already in the development phase.
A few days ago, we spoke about our new photovoltaic projects in Portugal. Through participation in a public tender, we achieved the world record in terms of €/MWh bid. This led to us being awarded new photovoltaic projects in Portugal. Previously, our Enerland Portugal office had already won another tender, in this case for the execution of a project in 2019. We are therefore delighted to carry out new photovoltaic projects in the country.
The contracts for both photovoltaic plants were signed under the CfD* or Contract for Difference model.
The first project developed will connect 19 MWp to the electricity grid. It will also produce an average annual energy output of 35,150 MWh. This is equivalent to the energy required to supply electricity to approximately 11,700 households. Completion of this first photovoltaic park is expected by the end of 2022.
The second project is slightly smaller. In this case, it will generate a capacity of 13 MWp.
Why Portugal
Portugal is one of the European countries with the greatest potential for renewable energy generation. In particular, due to its geographical position, it stands out in photovoltaic energy generation. Like other southern European countries, it receives high levels of solar radiation throughout the year. This means that the development of this type of energy not only helps preserve the planet. It also facilitates access to electricity and helps address rising energy demand.
Furthermore, the energy generated by this project will prevent the emission of more than 12,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere. In this way, on the one hand, it will reduce the negative impact on the planet and, on the other, it will promote the achievement of the goals established for 2030 by the UN.
*CfD refers to Contracts for Difference. In this type of contract, the buyer and seller agree a price for renewable energy. The difference is then settled against the actual price in the wholesale market.
