The project marks a new milestone in the company’s commitment to energy storage
It also has 278 MWh under construction in three other countries
ENERLAND continues to advance the hybridisation of its Soure photovoltaic plant in Portugal by incorporating a 10 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project will improve the flexibility of the facility and contribute to greater integration of renewable energy into the electricity grid.
The solar plant, located in the district of Coimbra, has a photovoltaic capacity of 21 MWp and secured grid injection capacity in Portugal’s 2019 solar auction. The hybridisation project is being developed in accordance with Decree-Law No. 15/2022 and is supported by Portugal’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), under the programme to strengthen grid flexibility and the integration of renewable energy.
This project builds on Enerland Group’s track record in Portugal, where in 2023 it completed the construction of three photovoltaic plants with a combined capacity of 58.5 MW, including the Soure plant.
Energy storage: a strategic area of growth
The hybridisation of Soure represents an important step in the company’s development of utility-scale BESS solutions and builds on the experience gained in two distributed generation hybridisation projects with a combined capacity of 2.28 MWh.
The company currently has 278 MWh of utility-scale storage under construction, including the 10 MWh at Soure. It also expects to begin construction of a further 360 MWh in Italy shortly, strengthening its portfolio and its commitment to solutions that optimise renewable energy management.
With these projects, ENERLAND continues to expand its capabilities beyond photovoltaic generation, contributing to the development of a more flexible, resilient energy system that is ready to integrate a greater share of renewable energy.
