Enerland Group, Galp and DEMA have joined forces to collaborate on the installation of the first lesser kestrel nesting building in one of the photovoltaic plants built by Enerland in Spain.

With the aim of strengthening the coexistence of renewable energy generation and the conservation of the natural environment, Enerland Group has launched its first kestrel nesting structure at one of the photovoltaic parks built by the company in Spain. This is the Pitarco photovoltaic park, located in Muel, Aragon, and owned by Galp. This initiative has been carried out in collaboration with DEMA (Environmental Protection and Study), an organisation with extensive experience in the protection of steppe birds and the restoration of natural habitats.

The new kestrel nesting building, designed and built by DEMA's technical team, aims to encourage the establishment of a colony of lesser kestrels, a small migratory bird of prey that plays a key role in the ecological balance of agricultural ecosystems. Thanks to this safe space, adapted to their needs, it is expected to contribute to maintaining and restoring their populations in the area.

This initiative forms part of the Enerland Group’s environmental strategy. It is aimed at integrating biodiversity protection into every phase of the development of its photovoltaic projects. For the company, generating clean energy goes beyond installing solar panels: it also involves responsible land management and the implementation of measures that benefit local flora and fauna.

"At Enerland Group, we understand that the energy transition must move forward in a way that respects the natural environment. Every project is an opportunity to leave a positive mark on its surroundings. This lesser kestrel nesting building symbolises that commitment and shows that solar energy can and should coexist fully with biodiversity conservation," highlights Javier Franco, Head of Environment at Enerland Group.

With the installation of this first building–primillar, Enerland Group, Galp and DEMA are strengthening a collaboration that combines technical expertise with environmental awareness. All with the aim of reaffirming their shared commitment to promoting a sustainable energy model that respects biodiversity for future generations.
