We attended RENPOWER Greece ’22, the European convention for assessing new opportunities in the renewable energy sector.
At Enerland Group, we are fully aware of how important it is to keep up to date with the latest developments both technologically and across the sector. Our international dimension means we are constantly assessing the potential of new markets. If just a few days ago our colleagues were attending events as relevant to our industry as RENMAD o GENERA ’22, this time we attended RENPOWER Greece ’22.
Around fifty people attended the event, which focused on new opportunities in the renewable energy sector. Representing us were Lorena Hernández, Director of the Development Department, and Beatriz Juste, from the legal area. With more than 20 expert speakers and an open discussion forum at the end of each of the day's four sessions, our colleagues had the opportunity to assess the market in the European country.
Greece
Southern Europe enjoys a geographically advantageous position both in logistical terms and in terms of solar radiation. Increasingly aware of this, its countries are backing the development of renewables, particularly photovoltaics. One example of this is Greece's progress in solar generation and awareness of the need for an energy transition towards a sustainable model.
In 2018, electricity generated from solar radiation covered around 7% of the country's energy needs. This placed it fourth in the global ranking, behind Honduras, Italy and Germany.
The country's greatest challenge will be to modernise and streamline the bureaucratic systems for granting permits. This would speed up the integration of renewables in a country that, like others in southern Europe, is still dealing with the legacy of energy policies based on the use of fossil fuels.
