We attended RENMAD Storage 2022, the new energy-sector congress whose main theme revolved around storage.
The conference was held on 21 and 22 June in Toledo, Spain. At Enerland Group, we attended RENMAD 2022 with our Director of developments, Lorena Hernández and José Alfambra, area manager for LATAM & Spain.
The main topic revolved around different aspects related to energy storage projects in Spain, as well as their profitability. How to design, finance, promote, build and operate them were some of the discussions that took place at RENMAD22.
"With previous experience in this field, we attended RENMAD to learn about the future outlook for storage technology in our country, as well as the regulatory framework that will govern it."- Enerland Group
Prospects for energy storage
At present, this technology is regarded as essential for supporting the large-scale deployment of renewables in our country, Spain. For this reason, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge is already working on a regulatory framework for it. Once published, the immediate rollout of storage in Spain is expected to begin.
To promote the development of storage technology, the government will also make €600 million available in aid. In addition, ERDF funds will provide €316 million to finance renewable energy projects. Both measures will give the Spanish energy market the necessary impetus to develop both renewables and storage in pursuit of the 2050 Agenda targets set by the PNIEC.
At a technical level
From a more technical perspective on energy storage, this technology is already ready for use. In other countries, both in Europe and internationally, it has already been used successfully for several years.
Thanks to this technology, the way electricity generation assets are operated is expected to change completely.
